MARGARET SULLIVAN
Gourd Art
-
Inspired by the magical Southwest, Margaret spends hours dreaming up creations on gourd canvases only nature can create. With the help of pyrography, carving, dyes, paints and a cornucopia of beads, precious stones, feathers and horsehair, her gourds are turned into creations of art.
Most known for her kachinas and masks, she will tell you she still does not have a specialty because of the possibilities of her art. Because of the time required for each piece, Margaret only participates in six to seven shows a year. She sells out of her home studio where she also teaches 10-12 classes a year. A self taught artist, Margaret enjoys sharing her love of art with her students. She resides in Rio Verde, AZ
Although primarily a gourd artist, Margaret has many other art forms, including jewelry making, quilting and a number of fiber art creations. Hertapestry handbags, recycled jean jackets and cowboy bootbags are always popular at local Phoenix/Scottsdale shows.
