ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

What Inspires you to create?
The challenge to see what I can make or paint and then the happiness I get from the end results.”

Describe your creative process.
It’s too difficult to explain.

How has your art evolved over the years?
I like to try different mediums be it paint or clay. I don’t have any fear that something won’t work because I have learned I can fix anything and make it how I want it.

What Inspires you to create?
”Anything & everything.”

Describe your creative process.
I scratch lines onto black paper and then manually use ink to draw over and around them.

How has your art evolved over the years?
I started out painting and doing miniature sculptures.  During an art show, everyone seemed to want my pen & inks, so I gravitated toward this medium.

What Inspires you to create?
The slinky feeling of smooth metal
against my skin.

Describe your creative process.
I coil wire on a mandrel & then cut it into rings to weave chain mail patterns.  I use yards of wire to weave around a mandrel to create chains the way the Vikings did hundreds of years ago.

How has your art evolved over the years?
I have learned to weave more intricate patterns over the years.

What Inspires you to create?
“I am always creating.  I love bringing my characters to life, and sharing their stories, then watching the smiles and joy that they bring to the people who see them.
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.”

Describe your creative process.
Sometimes I will get an idea from a childhood memory, or perhaps in a dream, and sometimes I am inspired by a vintage object that I find while treasure hunting at a local market, that I can envision re-purposing in a new way.  I like to see the world through my characters' eyes and imagine how it would look to them.  How would they use a found object in their world while living their human lives.

How has your art evolved over the years?
When I first started making needle-felted animals they were realistic animals and they were nice, but I wasn't happy doing the same animals over and over.  One day I decided to put clothes on one and animate in a storybook style, and I watched it come to life, and in that moment I knew that I had found my joy.  Since then, I have gone from making just tabletop sculptures to building my own canvas over and over.

SAT-ART-DAY

Saturday, December 9th
10am - 2pm

What Inspires you to create?
“I'm inspired by the thought of being able to create something beautiful and share it with the world.   My art strives to capture a moment or memory in time and translate that into a piece of art. The consistent thread of my art style is that each piece tells a story created by a memory, or conversation, or dream.”

Describe your creative process.
My creative process starts with making a sketch or a jotted-down note from a memory that I want to capture.  After that, I began to build, select concepts, and draw out the layout of the paintings.  My mini travel painting set fits into a 4x6 box so a lot of these paintings are made in different cities when I travel.  That is part of the fun.

How has your art evolved over the years?
My artwork has evolved to accommodate my lifestyle which includes an extensive travel schedule.  I began my career creating large-scale pieces and now create 2"-5" pieces.  My travel art kit fits nicely in my luggage and has challenged me as an artist to create miniature masterpieces.

What Inspires you to create?
”Architectural designs inspire me.  The order in the midst of chaos fascinates me.  I seek harmony that a design can create.”

Describe your creative process.
I will see an everyday image and I instantly think about how the shape can be blown up into lines or shapes.  My mind deconstructs it and turns the shapes upside down.  I then think about how intersecting lines or the angles of lines can re-create a design in a new way.  I don't sketch but rather imagine the pieces and begin layering design elements onto my canvas

How has your art evolved over the years?
I am a completely self-taught artist.  My habit of doodling in business meetings found a new home on my canvas and began to experiment with painting the perfect line.  Over the years I have kept experimenting with how close lines can get until their color hues change or at what angles straight lines appear to move.  The possibilities are endless.
